What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy is a mental health profession that utilizes the creative process of making art to improve physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It is helpful for individuals dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health challenges. Art therapists are graduate level, mental health professionals who have extensive training in both art and psychology. Art Therapists are credentialed by the Art Therapy Credential Board (ATCB). They use various art making techniques to help explore their thoughts and feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, manage behavior and addictions, develop social skills, reduce anxiety, and increase self-esteem.

Thank you for creating a safe space to explore and experiment with my identity and emotions through art. My fear of failure, imperfection, mess (etc...) was a way of survival avoiding difficult things from my past. Now I am learning to welcome all inner experiences that pass through me and I feel allowed to take up space.

I don't know how you did it but you lit a fire in me that I thought they had taken from me. I will forever be grateful, in this experience I found the safety to meet myself again.
